The Navigator

The Navigator is a powerful magical artifact resembling a massive, self-orienting globe rather than a traditional compass.

Roughly the size of a Medium creature, it weighs only 100 pounds despite its solid construction. The globe’s surface is alive with magic: its terrain, landmarks, and features constantly shift and update, reflecting the user’s perception of the world rather than an objective or fixed map.

Any creature may use the Navigator by placing a hand upon its base. Upon doing so, the globe slowly rotates and reorients itself. A glowing arcane circle appears and aligns precisely with the location of whatever the user seeks.

Through extensive testing, the Navigator has demonstrated an ability to transcend both time and space. If the object, person, or concept being sought does not exist in a fixed location — or is abstract in nature — the Navigator instead points to where the user is most likely to find it, assuming they depart within the next hour.

For example, if a creature seeks an item that was stolen from them, the Navigator will not necessarily indicate the item’s current location. Instead, it will display the place where the seeker is most likely to recover it, accounting for future movement and unfolding events.
